Programme

The Memory Training for Recovery–Adolescent (METRA) programme is an evidence-based, low-cost group intervention designed to reduce psychological distress among adolescents affected by conflict and trauma.

The programme consists of ten 1-hour sessions delivered over about two weeks and can be facilitated by community health workers after just 4–8 hours of training.

The Monash University METRA Resources page includes:

  • An overview of the METRA intervention and its aims.
  • Downloadable METRA Intervention Manual (Arabic, English, French, Kurdish, Persian.)
  • The Path of Hope graphic novel introducing METRA (Arabic, English, Kurdish.)
  • A short METRA animation available in Arabic with English or Kurdish subtitles.
  • The full METRA report and a presentation from the 2025 Humanitarian Leadership Conference.
  • A list of related publications, including trials in Afghanistan and Iraq.
  • Contact details for the research team at Monash University.

You can explore all these materials on Monash University’s METRA resources webpage.
