Shaping the future: Our strategy for research and innovation in humanitarian response.
Since 2015, we have identified gender-based violence (GBV) as an area of focus for our Humanitarian Innovation Fund (HIF). Since then, we have launched Innovation Challenges that call for new and improved responses to intimate partner violence (IPV), monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of GBV programming and most recently, focusing on the safe use of technology for GBV in emergencies.
We are running a mini-series this year, following on from the success of our webinar series in 2023. This will showcase the latest progress made by two innovation teams, Ipas and IRC, who were awarded follow-up funding for their work innovations addressing reproductive coercion and using case management outcome scores to drive better GBV response programming.
Our mini-series is timed to coincide with the 16 days of activism on violence against women. We are proud to contribute to this important annual campaign, by shining a light on the role that research and innovation play in strengthening GBV programmes around the world.
In the first of our two short webinars, Elrha and Ipas will discuss how ARCHES (an intervention for Addressing Reproductive Coercion in Health settings) has been successfully adapted for use with the Rohingya population in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.
Ipas will focus on key considerations of adapting to the context of Cox’s Bazar, while Elrha will frame some of the successes and challenges within the broader context of best practices in the humanitarian innovation process. There will also be time for questions and answers.
This webinar should be of interest to anyone wanting to know more about reproductive coercion and women’s reproductive autonomy in humanitarian settings, as well as to people interested in a case study of adaptation and scale in the humanitarian innovation process.

In our second webinar, IRC will share the latest additions to their GBV outcome scales toolkit, which enable humanitarian GBV caseworkers and supervisors to monitor and improve the impact of their GBV work, using the programme data that they gather through their work with survivors. Speakers from IRC will introduce the newly developed training package that facilitates data analysis and interpretation, while Elrha will frame some of the successes and challenges within the broader context of best practices in the humanitarian innovation process.
This webinar should be of interest to anyone wanting to know more outcome measurement in GBV response programmes, including how they can access the newly developed training tools. It is also an opportunity to explore the role that humanitarian innovation can play in improving GBV response programming in humanitarian emergency settings.
