Strengthening the Pharmaceutical System in Conflict-Affected Areas of Mali

These two French-language articles highlight work from a research project led by the University of Sciences, Techniques and Technologies of Bamako (USTTB), supported by Elrha’s R2HC programme. The project investigates how conflict impacts access to medicines in Mali and explores ways to strengthen pharmaceutical systems in fragile settings.
The first article focuses on the resilience of Malian health workers who continue to provide care despite insecurity, damaged infrastructure, and population displacement. Their commitment is supported by humanitarian partners and remains essential to sustaining basic health services.
The second article shares findings from the study, which assessed medicine availability, affordability, and prescribing practices in Mopti and Timbuktu. It also reports on a national workshop where key stakeholders discussed practical steps to improve medicine supply chains and promote rational medicine use in conflict-affected areas.
