Disease control amongst refugee populations is a critical component of the global response with COVID-19.
This letter, published in Conflict and Health, outlines simple ideas to mitigate the impacts of the COVID-19 epidemic on refugees with chronic diseases, informed by an R2HC funded study in Jordan, led by International Rescue Committee.
The ongoing study aims to investigate and improve a community health worker based model for non-communicable disease care in a humanitarian emergency. The letter highlights the importance of thinking about how community health volunteers are used to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 for refugees needing life-saving care for non-communicable and chronic infectious diseases, including diabetes and HIV/AIDS.
