Dr Catherine Nakalembe
Catherine is an Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland and NASA Harvest Africa Lead, as well as a member of the NASA SERVIR team. She applies satellite remote sensing and machine learning to advance agriculture, food security, and climate resilience in Africa. An inaugural UKHIH fellow, Dr. Nakalembe also co-authored the "Beyond Borders: Satellite Applications for Humanitarian Emergencies" report.
"My research spans satellite remote sensing, machine learning, and on-the-ground realities in Africa, encompassing crucial humanitarian issues such as displacement, war impacts on cropland, flood mapping, and refugee land use. By integrating advanced technology with a deep understanding of humanitarian challenges, I can help shape strategies for more effective, holistic responses."
