In early 2021, our Research for Health in Humanitarian Crisis (R2HC) programme will launch a special funding call for research proposals with the potential to create transformative change to health response within the humanitarian sector. These research proposals must address one or more priority humanitarian health evidence gaps, and be of sufficient scale or complexity to justify the high grant value. Grants will be available for between £1-3 million to support research studies for up to three years, from late 2021.Strategic partnerships between researchers, including in the country(s) where research will be conducted, with humanitarian practitioners, and with end users of research findings will be critical.

Who will be eligible?

  • Lead applicants must have considerable experience of managing large (i.e. multi-million GBP) research grants in humanitarian contexts, and demonstrate they are able to meet our core due diligence requirements.
  • The lead research and humanitarian operational partners must have previous experience of working together on research studies.
  • The study team must include academic partners from each of the countries/regions in which research will be conducted.
  • The Principle Investigator(s) must hold a PhD, have experience of managing similar-sized research studies in humanitarian contexts, and have a significant number of publications in a relevant field.
