Ian Delarosa- Deputy Country Representative for the Palestinian Territory at Catholic Relief Services

Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is deeply honored to be provided a grant by the Humanitarian Innovation Fund (HIF) to carry out and document a pilot project of how to do disaster risk reduction (DRR) in urban environments related to man-made disasters in very a complex political environment.

The timing could not be any more interesting with the Arab spring in neighboring countries, a call for a unity government between Fatah and Hamas in the occupied Palestinian territories (oPt), and the move to ask the UN to vote on Palestinian statehood. In preparations for the grant start-up, CRS had contacted the key humanitarian organizations in the oPt to notify them of the good news of securing the grant, developed an operation manual and started the recruitment process. We look forward to keep everyone abreast of the progress on the project and the lessons we learn along the way.
