Now that the beta version of the Humanitarian Genome prototype is almost ready for launch with our partners, we have changed our focus to make acquaintance with the Humanitarian Genome easier and smoother for new users. In order to do so, it is crucial to find ways to communicate what the Humanitarian Genome actually is: what it can do, how users may use it and what users can do if they need support. We have thought of different mediums and strategies to answer these requirements and some have been shared in our previous blog. A few additional ones are the design of a staged user support function including: a user manual, a digital help feature and an online HG expert contact ability. Another exciting new medium is the creation of a short animation clip for easier promotion and dissemination of the Humanitarian Genome use and significance (designed by http://www.amanimation.net/).

After some searching, we found two wonderful professional designers in Israel who were willing to help us out with making a professional animation video of the Humanitarian Genome. The challenge with such a clip is that we had to translate all we know and want to tell about the Humanitarian Genome into both images and short text (1.30min!!). We learned a lot while doing so.

In terms of images, we did not want to draw upon clichés of humanitarian crises and humanitarian aid provision, and it was important to avoid stereotypical representations of the people and mind sets. We wanted the clip to convey that we all are vulnerable to crises and that there is a wealth of experience knowledge over how best to approach such crises and to assist those in need. This wealth of information is now made accessible by the Humanitarian Genome in a user-friendly speedy manner. Sounds exciting? Keep looking at this blog and we will very soon have our HG media pack for you to explore!
