MHM_FactsMenstruation is difficult to manage in emergencies; privacy, sanitation facilities, access to hygiene materials are among some of the challenges women and girls face. We funded Columbia University and the International Rescue Committee to carry out research into women and girls priority menstrual hygiene needs in order to develop a toolkit to guide humanitarian response.

MHM_ChallengesThe Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) in Emergencies Toolkit is a multi-sectoral resource that will guide humanitarian responders on how to support women and girls with menstruation in emergencies. This toolkit will enable women and girls to manage menstruation safely, with privacy and dignity. The Toolkit was launched at a ‘launch & learn’ event in London on 23 October 2017.

See the Toolkit here, as well as standalone infographics, including this summary of challenges and recommended responses to MHM in emergencies.

The Toolkit as well as all infographics are also available in our Publications Portal.
