Zouéra, an ALIMA/BEFEN nurse, examines a child sitting on his mother's lap. Mothers often bring their children to the CRENAS of Gafati because they notice they have all malaria symptoms. But regularly, during the consultation, the health team diagnoses severe acute malnutrition. Zouéra checks for ear, nose and throat (ENT) infections, in addition to other checks, such as anemia, oxygen saturation with a pulse oximeter. "We do a head-to-toe check," she insists.
