Shaping the future: Our strategy for research and innovation in humanitarian response.
As a global humanitarian organisation, we work with a wide range of actors, networks and partners to make sure our work achieves real impact. Our governance structure is in place so we can act with independence and integrity, and is led by our Board of Trustees.
Our Board of Trustees has overall responsibility for the organisation; it approves our strategic direction, ensuring we are focused on delivering against our ambitious strategy, vision and mission.
Our Board is also responsible for ensuring we are legally compliant, approve policies, annual plans and manages organisational risk. Elrha’s CEO, Jess Camburn, reports to the Chair of the Board.
Our Board is supported by a number of expert advisory and technical groups, as well as Funding Committees.
Our Programme Advisory Groups advise our Board of Trustees on the strategic direction of our programmes – the Humanitarian Innovation Fund (HIF), Research for Health in Humanitarian Crises (R2HC), and the Global Prioritisation Exercise for Humanitarian Research and Innovation (GPE). The Advisory Groups provide us with technical advice and expertise and make recommendations regarding our programme priorities, helping us to set the direction and framework for our grant-making.
The Advisory Groups also select and appoint our Funding Committee members. The Chairs of the Advisory Groups report to our Elrha Board of Trustees.
Our Programme Funding Committees make independent decisions on the research studies and innovation projects we should fund, and have the authority to make funding decisions up to a pre-agreed amount. Their decision-making follows robust processes, which may vary depending on the size of the grant, but in all cases is independent and transparent.
The Chairs of our Programme Funding Committees report to their respective Advisory Group.
Our Technical Working Groups (TWGs) provide a greater depth of technical expertise in the thematic areas we focus on. Our Programme Advisory Groups delegate their duties to the Technical Working Groups in these specific thematic areas.
