Global Survey on Menstrual Hygiene Management

Columbia University, the International Rescue Committee (IRC), UNICEF, UNFPA, and UNHCR invite you to share your expertise as they work to improve the lives of displaced girls and women around the world. To help us all create environments in which girls and women can live with dignity, they hope to capture documentation on local menstrual management practices in regions around the world.

The aim is to collect existing information (through a short survey) on the unique aspects of managing menstruation in each context, such as material and supply preference, hygiene practices, and cultural beliefs.  Your responses will aid in the creation of an open-access database, describing local MHM practices for the purposes of a rapid, culturally appropriate, response if an emergency arises.  The database will ultimately be posted on a publicly accessible website for the global humanitarian response community.

Although directly consulting with girls and women is a priority, this database aims to expand the information available on menstrual practices through whatever existing information is available to better enable organizations to plan and respond to the critical MHM needs of girls and women. Please share with additional colleagues and networks who may be able to provide critical input on this!
