Funding committee member (Humanitarian Innovation Fund)

The Humanitarian Innovation Fund is a globally-recognised programme managed by Elrha leading on the development and testing of innovation in the humanitarian system. Established in 2011, it was the first of its kind: an independent, grant-making programme open to the entire humanitarian community. It now leads the way in funding, supporting, and managing innovation at every stage of the innovation process. 

We are now looking to recruit 2 new members to join our independent HIF Funding Committee.  The Funding Committee forms part of the HIF governance structure and provides independent assessment and recommendation of funding decisions. The Funding Committee is made up of 10 members (including a Chair). To find out more about the function of the HIF Funding Committee, please refer to the attached Terms of Reference.  

Members of the HIF Funding Committee:  

• Play an important role in shaping the HIF’s funded innovation portfolio, aided and informed by a range of technical and expert inputs   

• Are involved in cutting-edge conversations about humanitarian innovation and proposed solutions to humanitarian problems across a range of focus areas (scaling, gender-based violence, water, sanitation and hygiene; disability and older-age inclusion, and locally-led innovation).  

• Are fully briefed by the HIF team on the objectives of each funding call, the key requirements and criteria and provided with all relevant guidance documents, briefings and supporting documents. 

• Provide independent reviews against agreed criteria, and make final funding decisions for the HIF, following an agreed process and within the budgets allowed.  

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?  

We are seeking individuals with an extensive humanitarian innovation background to join our Funding Committee. The ideal candidate should have experience in leading innovation projects or start-ups in crisis-affected countries, as well as strong understanding of the challenges and gaps within the humanitarian sector.
