Dealing with Disasters International Conference 2010
Linking Disasters and Development: the next 10 years
23rd & 24th November 2010
Northumbria University, Newcastle, UK
The annual 'Dealing with Disasters Conference' will this year be held at Northumbria University on 23rd and 24th November 2010. This two-day conference is jointly hosted by the Disaster and Development Centre at Northumbria University, the University of Glamorgan and University of Sunderland. Speakers will include representatives from universities, government agencies, Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and professional organisations from around the world. This partnership between universities and the organisations involved in resilience planning, emergency response and post disaster development is a key feature of the Dealing with Disasters conference series.
Building on the success of the Conferences over the last five years, a key aim of this year's programme is to focus on ten years of progress in linking disaster and development and prioritisation for the following ten years. The event attracts people from the academic, practitioner and policy worlds, often including those from a high level of office.
The conference focus for 2010 is 'Linking Disasters and Development: the next 10 years'.
This involves exploring and highlighting aspects of resilience, response, investigation and recovery strategies for dealing with environmental, economic and socially related disasters, nationally and internationally.
The conference themes are:
- Rights based approaches to disaster reduction
- Beyond resilience
- Health security and wellbeing
- Urban disaster planning and infrastructure
- Disaster communication and associated technology
- Community to community development
The conference programme is deliberately broad and is designed to bring together the wide range of professional and academic organisations involved in the field.
Conference Venue
The conference will be held at Northumbria University, Great Hall, Sutherland Building, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 8ST, UK.
