Academic Member: Dr Stephen Edwards (University College London)

picture of Dr. Steve Edwards Steve is an Earth scientist and the Research and Education Development Manager of the Aon Benfield UCL Hazard Research Centre at University College London. Before joining UCL in 2007, he held academic positions in the UK, Canada, Hong Kong and Papua New Guinea. Steve's primary interests lie in hazardous natural processes and their assessment, education, effective communication of science to professionals and the public, and interdisciplinary project development and management. Through his extensive fieldwork he has witnessed the impacts of environmental change and natural disasters first hand, and he understands the natural and societal pressures that lead to humanitarian crises. Steve is now working with the higher education, business, humanitarian and development sectors, and the media and the UK government, to develop innovative research, education and training programmes aimed at reducing the risk of natural disasters and environmental change. Steve is a Fellow of both the Geological Society of London and the UK Higher Education Academy.
