Project partners: Engaging Tomorrow's Global humanitarian Leaders, Today
People In Aid
Ben Emmens, Director of HR Services
People In Aid is a global network of more than 140 humanitarian and development organisations. People In Aid's human resources management research programme responds to the needs expressed by its members, and in turn, People In Aid's varied output informs and influences NGO decision making around the world. People In Aid has a strong track record in researching pertinent human resources related issues in the humanitarian and development sector: this research would build on a number of previous humanitarian research projects
(Competencies 2003 to date; Surge capacity 2007; retention and staff turnover 2006) as well as linking to current projects in which People In Aid plays a partnership role (the emergency capacity building project http://www.ecbproject.org, and a UK based leadership working group with RedR, ALNAP, Mango, BOND and a number of INGOs).
Cranfield University
Dr Michael Dickmann, Senior Lecturer in Global HRM and, Dr Emma Parry Senior Research Fellow, Cranfield School of Management
Cranfield University is an internationally respected institution and has an excellent reputation for delivering high quality research in this area. Michael is currently completing a book on global careers for Routledge (with Yehuda Baruch). Michael is also the lead academic in a UN World Food Programme project (with Jean-Luc Cerdin) reviewing their international mobility, development and career system.
Emma has a long-standing interest in HRM and has conducted a range of research projects in the third sector, as well as authoring a number publications on HRM in the UK voluntary sector.
By combining People In Aid's extensive experience and network of contacts as the only global HR network in the humanitarian sector, and Cranfield University's expertise in the discipline of human resources management and organisational development, the project benefits from a substantial multiplier effect. Cranfield University provides leading technical expertise in advanced research methodologies, surveying, analysis, and report writing.
People In Aid's unequalled role as a catalyst for stimulating debate and learning around key humanitarian HR issues along with its large network of contacts will ensure the findings gain maximum attention and debate within the humanitarian sector.
