Medair brings life-saving relief and rehabilitation in disasters, conflict areas, and other crises by working alongside the most vulnerable. Its staff are inspired by their Christian faith to provide practical and compassionate care for people in need.

The Medair Relief / Rehabilitation Orientation Course (ROC), offers Christians an intensive experiential orientation to relief work with Medair. Participants experience the challenges of relief work through practical simulations and become familiar with Medair’s values, projects, and country programmes.

The ROC is an eight-day training and evaluation course that takes place three times a year, usually in Switzerland, and costs €500 (about £425). Each participant will be interviewed by a member of the Medair Human Resources team to evaluate the week and discuss their possible future with Medair.

This course is mainly aimed at experienced professionals wanting to use their skills in the humanitarian sector, rather than recent first time graduates. Over the last year, Medair has received 2000 applications, for the 100 available places on the 3 Medair ROCs.

About 60% of those who successfully complete the ROC will join a field programme with Medair. For those new to relief work, Medair offers a living allowance of $100/month (for the 1st Year) plus a benefits package which includes a full briefing at our Swiss international headquarters, international flights, accommodation, and food. These “New Relief Workers” then grow into experienced Medair relief workers in a real-world environment. From the start of the 2nd year, if both Medair and the candidate wish to extend the contract, candidates will receive a salary and other benefits.
